SURREY — A company that provides security for several large events in Surrey is expanding to a facility on King George Boulevard.

Genesis Security Group has a target date of June to move into a 6,000-square-foot space in Newton.

The headquarters, under construction in a building located behind the PricePro store and John Volken Academy, will serve as a hub for the company’s training centre, administration and monitoring operations.

“We have a number of employees who live in Surrey and in the surrounding area, so it makes sense for us to have an office here, in addition to a location in Vancouver,” Camil Dubuc, the company’s president and CEO, told the Now-Leader.

Staff at the Surrey office will number close to 20, but that figure doesn’t include the hundreds of security guards employed by Genesis for events such as Surrey’s Vaisakhi Day Parade, Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair and Fusion Festival.

A new office in Vancouver will include the company’s alarm, mobile and sales departments.

Dubuc said the Surrey site will serve as a training centre – for basic, advanced, tactical and also community awareness training, the latter aimed at members of the general public.

“We think this is a good move for us at this time,” said Dubuc, who founded the company in 1997.

In 2015, Genesis marked the 10th anniversary of its Community Patrol Program, a free community patrol of Vancouver’s west side.

The company’s website is Genesissecurity.com.
