SURREY — A new day program for older adults has opened in Guildford.

Seniors Come Share Society held an open house on April 26 to celebrate its third such program in the region, with sites already operating in Newton and South Surrey.

The non-profit organization’s day programs “focus on the interests and strengths of our clients to ensure an optimal therapeutic experience.”

Older adults are referred through Fraser Health’s Home Health program.

“While these individuals engage with peers and stay active, their caregivers have time for themselves,” the society’s executive director, Sue McIntosh, said in a press release.

In Guildford, the program operates at #4-15355 102A Ave., Surrey.

Seniors Come Share Society also offers community meal programs, a variety of caregiver support programs, plus Friendly Visitors and Senior Connectors programs.

“We would like to thank City of Surrey Councilor Barbara Steele and the Seniors Come Share Society board, chaired by Doug Waymark, for their ongoing and essential support,” McIntosh added. “Special thanks to our fabulous volunteers and skilled staffing teams.”

Seniors Come Share Society was launched in 1977 to provide community-based programming and services to older adults and their families. Today, in its 40th year, the organization serves more than 12,000 seniors in its day programs. Details can be found online at Comeshare.ca, or call 604-531-2502.
