1. “Discover the story behind every door” during Surrey Doors Open, a behind-the-scenes event that happens for a sixth year this Saturday (June 17) at sites in City Centre, Cloverdale, Newton and South Surrey. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., doors open at places that include Surrey Operations Centre on 140th Street, Harness Racing BC’s facility at Fraser Downs, Surrey Animal Resource Centre on Colebrook Road, Newton’s RCMP station, Surrey Archives and more. A photo contest is part of the fun (use the hashtag #surreydoorsopen, or email doorsopen@surrey.ca), and tourists can take advantage of “hop-on, hop-off” buses. A fold-out brochure includes all the info, or visit surrey.ca/doorsopen for details. This is a free event.

2. Thirty-two hours of non-stop board, card, miniature, roleplaying, computer, console and arcade gaming is promised during the aptly titled Nothing But Games, a convention at Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel this weekend (June 17-18). The inaugural event, hosted by West Coast Science Fiction Association (WCSFA), should attract close to 500 people. “Games are great for every age group, so we expect kids and adults, teens, people of all ages,” said Andrea Driedger, who helped plan the event. Tickets range from $10 to $40. For more details, visit wcsfa.org/nothing-but-games-open-alpha.

3. On Saturday (June 17), the plaza at Surrey City Hall (13450 104th Ave.) will fill with music and dancing during Downtown Bhangra, the marquee event of the annual City of Bhangra festival. From noon to 8 p.m., the entertainment will include performances by En Karma, DJ Intense, Zora Randhawa, Kirti Arneja and others, plus more than a dozen bhangra dance teams. Check for details at vibc.org/downtown_bhangra_2017.
