1. On Saturday (May 27), celebrate the grand opening of Surrey’s Godwin Farm Biodiversity Preserve Park, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 9016 164th St., Surrey. The park is home to a fish-bearing stream, pond, orchard and hundreds of mature trees, and park visitors can view a variety of bird life and walk along the looping trail network. Saturday’s event will include tours of the park, children’s activities, bucket truck rides, live music by Tony Prophet, face painting and refreshments. For more details, visit surrey.ca/events.

2. The Friends of the Grove community group is having a party on Sunday (May 28) at Newton’s Old Surrey Restaurant – a fundraiser and cocktail party, to be exact, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funds from the $25-a-ticket event will help the Friends with their work to build a sense of community in Newton, with help from the local BIA. Guests should expect to taste wine, enjoy canapés, sip tea and/or coffee and have conversations about community, at 13483 72nd Ave., Surrey. For details, visit eventbrite.ca.

3. Take a closer look at the wonderful art created by White Rock’s Jim Adams during a tour of his current exhibition, The Irretrievable Moment, at Surrey Art Gallery on Wednesday (May 24), from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Adams’s five decades of artmaking is revealed in the show, the largest ever presentation of his work. The free guided tour, at 13750 88th Ave., will be led by curator Jordon Strom. For details, call 604-501-5566 or visit surrey.ca/artgallery.
