The City of Surrey wants to offer the public more information about the recently approved Hawthorne Park Improvements Project.

On Nov. 6th, city council approved the controversial project amidst heavy opposition from a vocal group of individuals.

Oppositions penciled a petition and turned up at city hall for announcements on the project. After months of debate, the city gave the project the green light.

Here’s a statement from The City of Surrey’s website:

“Council’s decision to approve the Project came after careful consideration of the need to balance the area’s growing transportation demands, plans for sustainable development in City Centre and along 104 Avenue, and active and natural areas for a community park.”

During the meeting, the city will divulge into the details of the plan. Aside from the road that cuts through the park, the city also wants to talk about plans for replacing trees and adding a new salmon rearing habitat.

The city also wants to talk about short-term improvements and long-term plans for Hjorth Road Elementary.

The meeting will take place at Riverdale Elementary on Dec. 6th starting at 5:30 p.m.
