Lord Tweedsmuir has long been a school known for their football excellence.
With two teams in B.C. high school football finals on Saturday, their stellar reputation has only been cemented further.
For the AAA junior varsity Panthers team, they went head-to-head against a Vancouver College team that battled them hard in a game earlier in the season.
In that wild affair, the Vancouver College Irish blew a 28-0 lead to trail 29-28. They ended up spoiling the Panthers’ comeback efforts with a late touchdown, giving them the 34-28 win.
In the championship matchup on Saturday, the Panthers got their revenge.
The game was a defensive battle through the first half, as a rushing touchdown from Terrell Jones gave the Panthers a narrow 7-0 lead at halftime.

After the Irish tied the game after a long pass-and-run play, Panthers running back Colton Cameron scored a five-yard touchdown to make the game 14-7 for Tweedsmuir.
The Irish did answer with another touchdown, but a critical blocked point-after-attempt prevented the game from being tied. At that point, the Panthers led 14-13.
It was a lead that the Panthers never relinquished.
Cameron added another rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Panthers would add another late field goal to take the title after beating the Irish by a score of 23-13.
With the victory, the Panthers retained their title as AAA junior varsity champions.
For the Panthers, they were led by a player that had shown up for them all season. Cameron was a captain on the team, and he led by example on the field with two touchdown carries.
The AAA junior varsity team wasn’t the only Tweedsmuir team to battle for a B.C. high school football title over the weekend.
Earlier in the day, the Panthers grade 8 team battled the Notre Dame Jugglers for the championship. Unfortunately for Tweedsmuir, they weren’t able to bring home two titles, as the Panthers lost 32-12.
Overall, it was an extremely successful season for football at Tweedsmuir. Their two younger teams both made the championship finals. The AAA squad ended up making the playoffs after a 6-1 regular season.
