An Oregon man wanted for rape and other sexual offences – including at least one involving a minor – was arrested at the Peace Arch border crossing Thursday.

According to a news release issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials just before 4 p.m. Friday, a 45-year-old traveller was detained June 22 after border officers found an arrest warrant out of Hillsboro, Ore. during a name check.

In addition to rape, the warrant names offences including sodomy and sexual abuse, the release states.

The traveller was turned over to the U.S. Marshals Service pending extradition to Hillsboro.

Acting area port Director Terry Schulze described border officers’ work as “vital to protecting our communities and especially those who are vulnerable, such as children.”

“CBP officers remain diligent in their efforts to intercept wanted individuals before they can do further harm to someone,” Schulze said in the release.
