Surrey RCMP looking for two suspects in Newton stabbing

Man, 34, was stabbed in the torso Sunday afternoon behind the Hollywood Theatre in Newton.

A 34-year-old Surrey man is in serious but stable condition in hospital after being stabbed in the torso Sunday afternoon behind the Hollywood Theatre in Newton.

Surrey RCMP Corporal Scotty Schumann said the victim’s injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, though.

Footage from the scene revealed a heavy police presence outside the Newton Wave Pool at 13730 72nd Ave. around 3 p.m.

A witness at the scene said a man was stabbed in the stomach and stumbled into the pool facility.

According to the witness, staff at the facility helped him before emergency crews arrived and rushed him to hospital with what were described as serious injuries.

RCMP were seen investigating behind the theatre, at 7125 138th Street.

Schumann said the description of the suspects is scant. Police are looking for two men in their late teens, one described as white and the other, East Indian.

Both ran away, he said.

Schumann said investigators are “still trying to figure out” a motive for the stabbing.
