Surrey Mounties made 13 arrests and seized numerous weapons and a “significant” amount of drugs after searching three residences in Whalley.
Police armed with search warrants raided residences in the 12900-block of 108th Avenue and 13300-block of Bentley Road simultaneously on April 19.
“Police had gathered information that individuals were operating ‘store front’ drug operations and in possession of firearms at these locations,” Corporal Scotty Schumann said. The Surrey RCMPs North Community Response Unit, bike team, the Lower Mainland District’s Emergency Response Team, police dog services and Transit Police were involved in the busts seizing handguns and crossbows, 1,100 doses of crystal methamphetamine, 400 dose of heroin and suspected fentanyl, to be confirmed by a lab. Nine kilograms of marijuana was also seized.
Adam Bruce Bogart, 32, of Surrey is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a firearm, and breach of a firearms prohibition. Three other people were also detained on outstanding warrants.
Schumann said the busts will “certainly immediately have an effect” on the local drug supply but noted that as people are arrested and drugs are taken off the street, generally new dealers will soon fill the void, with new supply.
That’s why, he said, “We don’t let up off the gas.”
Staff Sergeant Marty Blais, commander of the North Community Response Unit, said the police “continue to monitor, arrest and disrupt the activities of multiple priority target individuals and locations associated to the street level drug trade. We are committed to taking strict enforcement action against those who prey upon the most vulnerable in our community and pose a significant threat to public safety.”
