Surrey man, 32, facing charges after police push stolen jeep out of oncoming traffic

A stolen Cherokee jeep allegedly driven by a Surrey man was pushed out of oncoming traffic by Vancouver Police SUV in a dramatic chase down Great Northern Way.

“The driver attempted to flee and a collision occurred between the vehicle and a police SUV,” said Staff Sergeant Randy Fincham. “The suspect was taken into custody, after the stolen vehicle was involved in a second collision on Great Northern Way at Clark Drive. No injuries were reported.”

A video of the high-speed chase on May 2nd was recorded on a motorist’s dash cam and uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday.

Dion Marlon Bird, 32, of Surrey has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, auto theft and assaulting a police officer. He is being held in custody and is expected to appear in court on June 14.

“We are not able to share any additional information, as this matter is currently before the courts,” Fincham said.
