MARTIN, Lawrence John


Lawrence John Martin, long time Surrey resident, passed away on March 6, 2017 at White Rock Seniors Village. He was 92 years old. Larry was born on March 29, 1924 and raised in Agassiz, BC. He left home as a young man to join the Canadian military during World War ll. He reenlisted after the war and served 20 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, living and working on many bases throughout Canada. Larry embraced military life and completed his service as a Flight Sergeant in the ME section.

Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Larry and his family moved to Surrey, BC where he went on to live a full and productive life as a civilian. Larry worked for Firestone of Canada and the Delta School District. During his off hours Larry was an avid gardener, raised chickens, ducks and bees, played golf, volunteered for his church, in politics and to support those less fortunate. He was an active and involved grandfather spending countless hours with his grandchildren. Larry was a good and kind man.


Larry is pre-deceased by his wife Eileen. He is survived by his 3 children: Maureen, Patricia and Larry Jr, son-in-law Roy, daughter-in-law Shirley, foster son Paul, 8 grandchildren and their spouses and 10 great grandchildren - he will be missed.


Internment will take place at 9:30 am on May 13, 2017 at Valley View cemetery (14660 - 72 Ave. Surrey BC); a Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 pm at Port Kells Congregational church (19131 - 88 Ave. Surrey BC). In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
