ZAPLITNY(DE ROOS), Susan Leslie

Born September 21st, 1953, Susan passed away suddenly on July 11th, 2006 at the Regina General Hospital in the arms of her family. Susan was born in Kelowna and spent her first few years there, it was a place that she fondly loved, returning many times for vacations. She spent her school years in Winnipeg flaunting conformity and celebrating the feel of the time, often going barefoot in her jeans downtown. Susan graduated from John Taylor Collegiate in Winnipeg 1971, despite having thrown her math text at a sub-par educator the year before. With a courtship that spanned the Brandon - Winnipeg corridor too many times to count, she shared a great love with her soul mate, Michael. She married Michael in 1974 and came to Regina for their first great broadcast adventure in 1975. They were the first among their circle of friends to welcome daughters Jennifer and Karen, setting off young and fearlessly into the lifetime commitment of parenting. Susan will be incredibly, sorely, forever and dearly missed by her loving family, husband Michael; daughters Jennifer (Rathwell) and Karen; son-in-law Andrew; father John de Roos and stepmother Doris de Roos of Cloverdale, B.C.; sisters Debbie English, Judy Hansen and Anita Bakker, Kathleen, Anna Mae and Janine de Roos. Susan will be especially missed by her dear puppy Merlin, to whom she was Mommy. Susan was a natural mother and there are many more outside her immediate family who would call her "Mom" as well. Susan loved life, her family and her wide circle of friends. Nothing was more important to her than her daughters Jennifer and Karen, who made Susan their role model. Susan supported, assisted, and guided her husband Michael through their 32 years of loving marriage. Susan was a master conversationalist and the font of incredible common sense wisdom, which she willingly shared with any and all. Susan considered all animals in the world her responsibility and would stop at nothing to protect and care for any living thing. She believed that animals were of equal importance to people and should be treated with the same respect. Her family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7. Cremation has taken place. Susan's ashes will be interred at two of her favourite places on earth, Star Lake, Manitoba and Lake Okanagan B.C. A private celebration of life party was held for Susan on Saturday July 15th. Arrangements were entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
