FOSTER, Victor John

Passed away in his sleep on December 8, 2008 at the age of 88. Pre-deceased by his parents, his loving wife Grace (nee Peckover), brothers Bill and Ronnie. Survived and much loved by his children Susan Coburn (Marty), Bruce (Glennis), Donald (Caroline), Anne Bonner (Joe); Grandchildren

Leila, Bretton, Haley, Courtney, Emma, Dylan, Nathan. Vic was born in Belfast, Ireland on March 1, 1920. The Fosters immigrated to Toronto in 1928. Vic enlisted with the RCAF, serving in Bomber Command from 1940–1945. Vic moved to Calgary in the late 1950's where he met and married the love of his life, Grace. In 1971 they settled in N. Delta where they enjoyed a happy life raising four kids, and owned Foster Antiques in Cloverdale for 20 years. An enthusiastic newspaperman, Vic worked for The Surrey Leader and Langley Advance, before becoming Travel Editor for the VanNet chain. He published two newspapers of his own: Skiing Illustrated and TravelWise, and established the award winning website TravelWise.Com. He founded the BC Travel Writers Ass’n, and was a founder of the BC chapter of TMAC. Vic enjoyed work at Red Barn Antiques where his trade knowledge and sharp wit were put to good use. He was an accomplished painter. His Irish tenacity and humor were endearing. He cherished his family and friends. He inspired many and will be greatly missed. His Memorial Service will be at 1 pm, Monday, January 12, 2009 at Peace Portal Alliance Church, South Surrey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delta Hospice Society.
