Wallace WRIGHT

October 11, 2009

WRIGHT, Wallace Bernard

Was born in Vancouver on December 21, 1923 and crossed the bar on October 11, 2009. At his side were his wife, Jo Hawley, his daughter and son, plus family and friends.

Wally attended Vancouver Tech High School before joining the RCN and served with convoys accompanying troop and supplies across the North Atlantic during the latter part of the war.

Often a reluctant traveler, Wally nonetheless managed to discover most of the world although always returning to Canada convinced that there was no place like home. Wally’s core of decency, sense of justice, helping hands, dry wit and quiet demeanor will be missed by all who were touched by him. Throughout his life Wally was well known for designing, building, fixing; be it houses, furniture, cars or boats. These aptitudes eventually led to a teaching degree from UBC and a satisfying career that spanned some 25 years primarily in the Surrey School District. Several years ago Wally established a bursary fund for deserving Industrial Ed students in the Surrey School District. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Wally Wright Bursary Fund Credit Union Foundation of BC c/o 1441 Creekside Road Vancouver, BC V6J 4S7 Atten: Rose Moore. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 20, at Beecher Place, on the beachfront at 12160 Beecher Street in Cresent Beach.
