Never let a good deed go unpunished?
Better, never let a bad deed break your spirit!
The North Surrey Tigers, a local football team comprised of young teenaged boys, recently spent a cold evening out on 135A Street in Whalley, providing food, hot drinks and clothes to many homeless people – 250 or so – encamped on that roughest of Surrey’s roads. Clearly, a good deed, done by boys ages 12 and 13.
Lessons embraced, presumably, were the importance of compassion, generosity and helping others.
Just over a week after giving to their community, the team’s 50-year-old plus clubhouse in Bear Creek Park was torched by vandals. The flames grew so tall, they burned a hole right through the roof.
The lesson learned? Sometimes, people really suck.
But boys, don’t lose heart, because if you do, you lose.
That’s the deleterious effect evil deeds sometimes have on good people. Sometimes, innocent victims get a little jaded, a little less generous, a little more guarded, a little less kind.
This nasty bit of vandalism and arson is a test, of sorts. Literally, a test by fire.
Realize, Tigers, that you are bright lights in a sometimes challenging world.
Keep shining your light, because this world needs it.
Hopefully, the vandals who torched your clubhouse will one day change their ways and become good, decent, caring people like you, at your young age, already are.
