GVHBA welcomes new CEO Bob de Wit

De Wit has a few plans now that he's taken over the reins.

The Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association is proud to introduce its new CEO, Bob de Wit. Replacing long-time CEO Peter Simpson, de Wit is ready to take on the challenge.

“I’m committed to listening to our members, home owners and government in seeking new ideas for creative and collaborative solutions for making home ownership more affordable,” he says.

De Wit already has a few plans now that he’s taken over the reins.

“Our focus at GVHBA going forward will be on expanding local government relations activity and encouraging greater intra-membership trade,” he says. “We’ll do this by enhancing efforts to build bridges with the various councils in the municipalities in which our members work. In addition, we’ll facilitate intra-membership trade via our website, enhanced sponsorship opportunities and continued growth of our Members Expo event to be held on May 1, 2013.”

Prior to starting at the GVHBA, de Wit was the CEO of an investment fund “that has invested in, among other things, technologies for improving energy-efficiency in the built environment, which lead to my interest in the residential home building and renovation industry,” he says. He now looks forward to working with the members of the GVHBA to improve affordability in the area, an important piece of the real estate puzzle in the Lower Mainland.

“GVHBA and our members, by the nature of our industry, can have a strong positive impact on housing affordability in our region, especially by working effectively with local government, and I want to contribute my efforts toward helping to make that happen.”

De Wit has lived in the Lower Mainland since 1986.

“I moved onto campus at Simon Fraser University to start my business degree,” he says. “I’ve lived in Metro Vancouver since then, with brief detours to Los Angeles in 1998 and Calgary in 1992.”

He now lives with his wife and daughter in South Surrey.
