Surrey’s Central City Brewers + Distillers is celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday with an across-the-nation beer collaboration.
Craft beers from different corners of Canada are part of the 12-bottle box, to be sold in stores starting in early May.
All beers in the Red Racer Across the Nation Collaboration were brewed at Central City’s Surrey plant, on Bridgeview Drive.
The brew that reps British Columbia is Left of the Divide IPA, from Delta-based Four Winds Brewing Company.
The multi-province effort is billed as the only cross-Canada beer collaboration celebrating “Canada 150.” Only Nunavut isn’t involved, because the territory doesn’t yet boast a brewery.
“We wanted each of the collaboration beers to show the uniqueness of the provinces and territories to celebrate everything that is Canadian,” stated Gary Lohin, brewmaster at Central City.
“The result is a special collaboration that not only features the best of what our country has to offer, but also the true spirit of Canada.”
Tasting events will be held across Canada, starting on Tuesday, May 30 with a Four Winds-hosted event held at Central City Brewpub on Beatty Street in Vancouver. The 13-event series concludes with a July 14 gathering in Surrey at the Central City Brewers + Distillers plant.
The other 11 breweries in the collaboration are Alberta’s Last Best Brewing & Distilling (Berry Light Berliner Weisse), Saskatchewan’s Black Bridge Brewery (Wide Open Spaces Kellerbier), Manitoba’s Half Pints Brewing Company (Land of Rice & Honey Saison), Ontario’s Beau’s Brewing Company (Upper Reaches Pale Ale), Quebec’s Le Trou Du Diable (Bouclier Canadien Pilsner), New Brunswick’s Picaroons Traditional Ales (Restored Hop(e) ESB), Nova Scotia’s Garrison Brewing Company (New Scottish Ale), Prince Edward Island’s PEI Brewing Company (Bière d’ici Honey Ale), Newfoundland’s Quidi Vidi Brewing Company (Hop To The East Hefeweizen), Yukon’s Yukon Brewing Company (Swift Currant Dark Ale) and Northwest Territories’ NWT Brewing Company (Miner’s Refresh Grissette).
