Baseball dream comes true: Yankees pick Surrey pitcher in MLB draft (audio interview)

FRASER HEIGHTS — Growing up in Surrey, Jeff Degano always wanted to be a New York Yankee.

On Monday (June 8), the fabled baseball club selected the pitcher in the second round (57th pick) of the MLB draft.

The 6-foot-4 leftie has excelled at Indiana State University in the NCAA league for two seasons.

Degano, 22, graduated from Fraser Heights Secondary. Early in his baseball life, Degano played with Whalley at the Little League World Series in 2005 and also pitched for White Rock Tritons of the B.C. Premier Baseball League.
