SURREY — The Surrey RCMP were kept on their toes this weekend with a string of incidents beginning Saturday morning.

At around 6 a.m. a black Dodge Charger smashed into a hydro pole at the corner of 72nd Ave. and 140th Street. The driver fled and appeared uninjured, witnesses said. The hydro pole fell to the ground causing a power outage in the area.

There were unconfirmed reports that the same vehicle had been involved in an earlier hit and run.

While emergency crews were on scene a Jeep Cherokee sped through the area forcing the workers to flee the vehicle's path. No one was injured. The Jeep was abandoned nearby and police were searching for the driver.

At 6:30 a.m. police were called to the area around Newton Elementary, at 134th Street and 81st Ave., after a man was found lying beside the road. The paramedics were not able to revive the individual.

The cause of the man's death was not apparent.

Police are asking anyone with information on either of these incidents to contact Surrey RCMP.

On Sunday, one man ended up in the hospital and another in police custody after a stabbing near 101st Ave. and 156th Street at around 11 a.m. The victim suffered a serious stab wound to the neck and was rushed to hospital. The man taken into custody appeared to have lots of blood on his clothes and his hands were bagged by police as evidence, said one witness.

This was the latest act of violence to plague Surrey neighbourhoods in recent weeks.

On Wednesday a 14-year-old girl was allegedly attacked in Newton by a group of teenagers in an area known as "The Grove," just metres from where Julie Paskall was killed this past December.
