Celebration of life planned for Surrey firefighter who died after motorcycle crash

SURREY — Firefighter Jay Easton has died following a crash between his motorcycle and an SUV.

The crash occurred at about 1:45 p.m. on May 20 on the Haney By-Pass and 227th Street. Easton, 45, was airlifted to hospital and his injuries were initially believed to be non-life threatening, but he passed away in hospital on June 2. The driver of the Cadillac SUV was 89 years old, according to the Ridge Meadows RCMP, and officers have requested that he be re-tested for his driver’s license. Police don’t believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

A celebration of life is planned for Easton on Friday (June 12) at 10 a.m. at Peace Portal Alliance Church, located at 15128 27B Ave.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made "In memory of Jay Easton" to the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society at Surreyfirefighters.com/donate.
