Golfing for a good cause will be front and centre in September at Northview Golf and Country Club.

The Cloverdale District Chamber of Commerce and Surrey Hospice Society are teaming up to host the inaugural Surrey Hospice Society Charity Golf Tournament Sept. 13.

Money raised at the event will benefit the Surrey Hospice Society, a non-profit organization that provides grief-support, free of charge, to the families of people that are terminally ill.

“The Charity Golf Tournament is win-win,” said Rebecca Smith, the executive director of the Surrey Hospice Society. “Golfers will enjoy a day of golf on a world-class Arnold Palmer course while making a difference in our community.”

The tournament will also assist the Cloverdale Chamber in its efforts “to support and champion” the Cloverdale and East Surrey business community for business, community services, and its residents.

Scott Wheatley, the Chamber’s executive director, said it was an honour for the Chamber to be able to team up with Surrey Hospice to help them raise funds.

“The Chamber is thrilled to partner with Surrey Hospice on such an inspiring event,” Wheatley said. “With the lasting impact of the pandemic and the devastating impact it had on many families, Surrey Hospice plays a crucial role in helping families make it through the emotional stress they face during these heart-wrenching times.”

Along with raising funds, organizers hope the tourney will bring the community together for “fun, connection and support.”

Tournament entrants will get a round of golf and dinner. Wheatley stressed all levels of golfers are welcome from duffers to professionals and even those who’ve never picked up a club before.

Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through the Surrey Hospice website at surreyhospice.com/golf. There are also sponsorship packages available.
