Surrey mom Kerry Morris is holding a fundraiser on Aug. 24 to raise money for the surgery her son will undergo four days later.

Steven, 25, was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, a cranial and facial deformity, and will have jaw distraction surgery to fix it.

It won't be his first surgery, but it will be an important one.

While the basic operation is covered by B.C.'s Medical Services Plan, the chin augmentation he wants will not be, and the family needs to raise $3,000.

"It is considered cosmetic surgery," explains Kerry.

"His looks have never bothered me - I love him just the way he is - but this isn't about what mom wants, it's about what Steven wants.

"I feel that if he finally can get this chin implant, he will feel more secure with who is as a man."

The Chins Up For Steven Fundraiser takes place Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. at Olympic Pizza, 10257 King George Hwy. (The surgery takes place on Aug. 28.)

Musical performers booked so far will include Atasha Marlee and Motorhead-tribute band Snaggletooth.

The fundraiser will include raffles, items for sale and possible silent auction.

Tickets ($15) can be purchased in advance or at the door.
