CLOVERDALE — Western Financial Group (Western) and Coast Capital Insurance are proud to announce they have awarded Cloverdale Catholic School to be a beneficiary of a $5,000 infrastructure grant to help support the development of a new library.

This grant is one of 20 distributed by Western’s charitable arm, the Western Communities Foundation, that will help give back to the communities in which Western operates. The Western Communities Foundation is donating a total of $100,000 to support community infrastructure projects.

“School libraries provide a place where children can develop their imaginations and reading skills,” said Sally Saulnier, manager of the Coast Capital Insurance Services branch in Surrey. “We are pleased our grant will benefit the children of Cloverdale Catholic School for years to come.”

“We are proud that the Western Communities Foundation has made a positive impact on dozens of the communities we serve,” said Jeff Burke, president and CEO of Western Financial Group. “The projects we support with our infrastructure grants are particularly special to the foundation because they are selected by our employees based on needs they see in their communities. It is a very special program, and we’re proud to announce that this year it will help improve daycares, art centres, fitness facilities, libraries and other community resources across Western Canada.”

In its 12-year history, the Western Communities Foundation has distributed more than 80 infrastructure grants to communities across western Canada for numerous projects. In 2013, Western, in partnership with its parent company, Desjardins Group, each contributed $100,000 to remediate flood-damaged playgrounds in the High River area of Alberta.

Founded in 2002, the Western Communities Foundation serves to give back to the communities where Western employees live and work, and foster employee pride and engagement. The Foundation’s core donation programs include community infrastructure grants, Exceptional Achievement Citation & Bursary Awards for graduating high school students and a Matching Grants program. Since its inception, the Western Communities Foundation has raised more than $1 million to support local communities.

Coast Capital Insurance, formerly a division of Coast Capital Savings Credit Union, was acquired by Western Financial Group in 2013. Under the terms of the agreement, Coast Capital Insurance will continue to operate under the Coast Capital brand name for at least two years from the date of the acquisition.
