Delta Arts Council marks anniversary with dance, drama, music, more

DELTA — Events this weekend celebrate the 45th anniversary of Delta Arts Council.

A six-hour gathering on Saturday, May 31 runs from 3 to 9 p.m. at Firehall Centre for the Arts, located at 11489 84th Ave., featuring dance, drama, music, games, memorabilia and more.

During the afternoon, groups slated to perform include Sidekick Players, Los Gitanos Spanish Dancers, O'Connor's Irish Dancers, along with other dance groups.

A "homecoming" for volunteers will be held between 5 and 7 p.m., celebrating thosewho have been involved with the arts council over the years. During the reception, Lana Hart and Pat Rogers will be acknowledged as advocates for the arts in Delta. Starting at 7 p.m., the band Liquid Courage will perform.

On Friday, May 30, the monthly openmic session will highlight songs from the late-1960s, the time when arts councils began emerging in B.C. On Sunday, June 1, Marilyn Kruger will perform her solo play Tempus Fugit. For details, phone 604-596-1025 or visit Deltaartscouncil.ca.
