Delta to hold social-media open houses in April

NORTH DELTA - Mayor Lois Jackson and council will be hosting a series of municipal open houses in Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta in April.

Dubbed #TalkDelta for the social media hashtag, the event aims to provide residents an opportunity to meet municipal employees, learn about government programs and services and receive firsthand answers to questions about issues and building developments in their community.Each #TalkDelta open house will feature two-30 minute town hall meetings hosted by Jackson, where residents can take part in a round table-style discussion with the mayor.The open houses will also have activities for children and families. Delta Fire and Emergency Services will have firefighter gear to try on, while kids can meet Caber, Canada's first "trauma K9" dog, on the show stage with Delta Police Victim Services Unit.Interested parents can also pick up a $20 unlimited drop-in summer pass for their children to all parks and rec facilities. There will be staff from the Climate Action and Environment Team on hand to explain how a watershed works and what type of fish, frogs and birds live in Delta. And families can also check out a few animals up for adoption from Delta's Community Animal Shelter.A Burns Bog science show and tell station will be available to explain the hydrology of North America's largest raised peat bog.North Delta's #TalkDelta event is on April 15 at Sungod Recreation Centre (7815 112th St.) from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jackson will host two-30 minute town hall meetings at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Town halls are also planned for April 8 at the Ladner Leisure Centre and April 9 at the South Delta Recreation Centre.
