SURREY — Police hope the public can help make the holiday a bit brighter for those in need this Christmas.
From Dec. 1 to 14, Surrey RCMP will hold its “Pack the Police Car” event at seven locations throughout the city.
Police will be collecting non-perishable food and cash donations for Surrey Food Bank, Sources Food Bank and the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper.
“Surrey is a city that is filled with generosity, especially at this time of year,” said Corporal Scotty Schumann in a release. “We all know someone who is struggling in our community to make ends meet and food banks are essential to helping those individuals and families get through the holidays and beyond. Help us pack our police cars full of food and donations so that no one goes without this holiday season.”
First, police will be collecting donations on Dec. 1 from 3 to 8 p.m. at two locations: Thrifty Foods (102-15745 Croydon Dr.) and Save-On Foods (18710 Fraser Hwy.)
On Dec. 8, Surrey RCMP will be set up at two Save-On Foods locations (9014 152nd St. and 10312 King George Blvd) from 3 to 8 p.m.
The next day, on Dec. 9, they will be collecting at the Newton Save-On Foods (7320 King George Blvd.) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On Dec. 10, they’ll be at Red FM from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., located at 8383 128th St.
Finally, on Dec. 14, donations will be collected from 3 to 8 p.m. at Superstore (7550 King George Blvd.).
Grocery gift cards and cash will be collected, as will food, of course.
Suggested food donations include canned protein (fish and meat), canned fruit and vegetables, meals in a tin, wholegrain rice, pasta and pasta sauces, healthy canned soup, and baby formula.
