Agility trials are among the highlights of the Sporting Dog Spectacular

Hunting dogs to compete at Hazelmere

The Sporting Dog Spectacular is taking place at Hazelmere RV Park in South Surrey this weekend.

It’s a bond that speaks of centuries of dogs working together with their handlers to bring in game from land and water.

The love of hunting and gun-dog breeds will be celebrated this weekend as competitors from this region – and even some from across Canada – will participate in The Sporting Dog Spectacular, a series of one-breed hunting dog shows (or ‘specialties’) back-to-back at Hazelmere RV Park, 18843 8 Ave.

The event, held in conjunction with two shows for all breeds in the Canadian Kennel Club Sporting Group, July 17-18, also includes agility trials and follows up on tracking tests held this week.

On Friday (July 17), golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers will each be featured in a regional specialty; on Saturday and Sunday, a national specialty will be held for Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, while on Sunday, there will be a national specialty for Pointers, as well as a regional specialty for German Shorthaired Pointers.
