Ladner author Laura Thomas—also known as Agent Story—hosted Delta's first World Storytelling Day celebration this past weekend (March 20).

The event, held at the Genesis Theatre in Ladner, featured storytelling performances by the winners of Thomas' Water in Words short story contest extended to Delta students.

The goal of the contest was to promote the development of young storytellers and the art of storytelling. Students were tasked with writing 1,000-word stories incorporating the theme of water.

Twelve winners were chosen: Justine Rapier, Grade 4 at Sacred Heart Elementary; Taylor Adam, Grade 4 at Cliff Drive Elementary; Sadie Baird, Grade 4 at Ladner Elementary; Rynelle De Souza, Grade 5 at Sacred Heart; Erin Alden, Grade 6 at Pinewood Elementary; Emma Millichamp, Grade 7 at Sacred Heart; Tessa Milic, Grade 10 at Seaquam Secondary; Emily Garlough, Grade 11 at South Delta Secondary (SDSS); Courtney Hoolsema, Grade 12 at SDSS; Brooke Isherwood, Grade 12 at SDSS; Mariko Adams, Grade 12 at SDSS; and David Eastman, Grade 12 at SDSS.
