KDocs – Kwantlen Polytechnic University's (KPU) official Documentary Film Festival – is bringing two critically acclaimed CBC documentaries to a Pride Week screening at KPU Surrey next week.
KDocs Community Outreach, in partnership with KPU, will bring How We Got Gay and Transforming Gender to KPU’s Surrey campus on Thursday, July 28 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Moderated by Be the Change Group Inc. founder Brandy Svendson, the event features a keynote address by KPU’s Gerald Walton, a KPU educational studies faculty member, activist and author of The Gay Agenda.
In addition to showing the two documentaries, the event will include a special panel of KPU students, faculty and community activists following the films.

Other panelists at the event include:
• Ryot Jey, a KPU student representing the Kwantlen Public Interest Research Group and Pride Kwantlen, and Tara Lyons, a member of the KPU criminology faculty;
• Kari Michaels, a Kwantlen Student Association representative and co-founder of Women Organizing Opportunities for Women.
The event is free, but seating is limited.
It takes place at KPU Surrey, 12666 72nd Ave. in the Fir Building, Room 128.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the first documentary screening at 6 p.m.
