LETTER: Excuses for pay parking would never end

The Editor,

Re: "Ticketing cancer patients is simply heartless," the Now letters, Jan. 8. I cannot imagine being a four-time cancer survivor and I am genuinely sorry for Mr. Botha's experiences.

However, I can imagine some of the long list of hardship stories routinely presented to city hall as excuses for insufficiently fed parking meters.

What would be an acceptable excuse for being late? Should parking be free for those below a certain income level? Those who forgot when the meter expired? Those whose child had a tantrum on the way to the car? Those who suddenly had to go to the bathroom?

Where would we draw the line? In this instance it seems clear that the most fair thing to do is to treat everyone the same.
