Month-long Irish festival kicks off Sunday in White Rock

WHITE ROCK — A mix of music, poetry, workshops, contests, dance, food, beverages and more will give the city a very Irish vibe during the month of March.

The month-long White Rock Irish Festival celebrates the European nation's heritage at a number of places around town.

The initiative is backed by the City of White Rock, Tourism White Rock, the Irish Club of White Rock, Semiahmoo Arts and many other community partners, including the Now.

The annual festival kicks off Sunday, March 1 with an "Irish flash mob" at the foot of the pier, starting at 1 p.m. The full calendar of events is posted on the Tourism White Rock website, at Inwhiterock.com.

Festival highlights include the month-long "Into the Mystic" art exhibit at South Surrey Recreation Arts Centre, an Irish whisky tasting at Uli's restaurant (March 10), the Irish club's St. Patrick's Day dinner/dance at Hazelmere Golf Tennis Club (March 14), concerts by Pat Chessell Band (March 14), fiddler Kiérah Raymond (March 20) and Tiller's Folly (March 27) at Blue Frog Studios, and St. Patrick's Day events at several venues on Tuesday, March 17, including Jimmy Flynn's Celtic Snug, White Rock Library, White Rock Elks Lounge and Sawbucks Pub.
