NELSON — RCMP are asking the public for help as the search continues for a Surrey man who went missing from a Nelson campground earlier this week.

The search for 56-year-old Paul Tayes began Thursday evening after park staff at the Kokanee Provincial Campground noticed his vehicle and trailer left at the campsite.

Tayes, who is described as 5'9", 180 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes, arrived at the campground on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at around 8:30 p.m after driving from Cranbrook.

He only paid for one night; however, park staff could not find him when they noticed his vehicles still at the campground two days later.

All his personal belongings were still in the trailer, said police.

Tayes had been planning to stay at Summitt Lake after spending one night at the campground.

RCMP say that this behaviour is out of character for Tayes and he has no known medical conditions.

Search and rescue crews, a helicopter and an RCMP dog handler have been searching the area.

Anyone who can provide additional information is asked to contact the RCMP.
