Murder charge stayed against Delta officer

DELTA - Delta Police Constable Jordan MacWilliams will not be tried for second-degree murder.

The Criminal Justice Branch stayed the charge. "Based on a careful review of the case, CJB has determined that the available evidence no longer satisfies its charge approval standard for the continued prosecution of Constable MacWilliams for any criminal offence," said Neil MacKenzie, CJB spokesman.

MacWilliams was a member of the Emergency Response Team responding to an incident at the Starlight Casino on Nov. 8, 2012.

He shot an armed suspect, Mehrdad Bayrami of Richmond, who later died in hospital.
