A new Safar With Pride website launched by Surrey-based Sher Vancouver aims to address "the rising challenges and discrimination faced by the LGBTQ+ community."
The "Desi Queer Learning Hub" of safarwithpride.com was created in response to "various anti-LGBTQ+ movements and incidents in the South Asian and broader community."
"Safar" means "journey" in several South Asian languages, "emphasizing the collective journey of the queer South Asian community," explains a post.
The website has sections for resources and help including crisis support, legal rights, sexual health, SOGI education, queer history and more.
"Safar with Pride holds a treasure trove of resources, from stories of queer South Asian icons to crucial information and support for refugees," said Alex Sangha, Sher Vancouver founder.
"Our goal is to offer easily accessible information empowering community members to learn about the queer South Asian community and about the issues faced by many sexual and gender minorities."
Founded in 2008, Sher Vancouver is a registered charity for queer South Asians and their friends, families and allies in Metro Vancouver. Projects include documentary films, the Sundar Prize film festival in Surrey, awards events, a peer support group and more.
Last April, the non-profit elected its first female president, Sunita Mistry.
