Open for business

It's nice to see Surrey get an "attaboy."

A report released this week by Vancity credit union identifies this city as the friendliest place for small business of 17 municipalities and cities in Metro Vancouver. (See story on page 21).

In comparison, Delta ranked eighth and White Rock sixteenth. Vancouver was twelfth (heh, heh).

The report, called "Open for Business," said Surrey is attractive to aspiring entrepreneurs for its population growth, more affordable business and residential property and lower costs of doing business.

Surrey also received high marks for business tax rates.

So, despite news of Surrey's growing pains, relentless shootings and other challenges, it's good to know that the city is not only doing something right, but according to Vancity's investigation, is doing it better than anyone else.
