Photo contest winners to be announced

Next Generation Amateur Photographer of the Year to be awarded Oct. 15

They beat out over 2,000 entries in the first round, and triumphed in a battle of the cameras. Now, B.C.’s best emerging photographers will receive over $1,500 in prizes, and one of them will be chosen as the Next Generation Amateur Photographer of the Year.

Black Press and London Drugs will award this honour to the best entrant in the “Your Best Shot” photo contest, out of thousands across B.C., on Oct. 15. Prizes will also be given to five category winners and the competition’s People’s Choice favourite.

The third annual contest’s first round received a record number of submissions to Black Press newspapers all over the province. Entrants came from more than 80 communities, including 100 Mile House, Campbell River, Burnaby, Vancouver, Kelowna, Chilliwak, Surrey, Hope, Invermere, Langley, Lumby, Maple Ridge, Nanaimo, Nelson, Prince George, Quesnel, Sooke, Vernon, and Victoria.

Expert judges selected more than 70 best entrants, who faced off against each other, taking photos in a one-day challenge at the Abbotsford International Airshow this August.

Prizes will be awarded in five categories, based on the best airshow images: Paul Kendall wins Best Air Photo. He submitted his initial entry to the Abbotsford News.

All category winners are invited to London Drugs in Cloverdale on Oct. 15, where the Next Generation Amateur Photographer of the Year winner will be announced. The winner will be featured on Black Press websites across the province.
