Record-breaking attendance at Surrey’s Tree Lighting Festival & Holiday Market

Concord Pacific ‘Giving Trees’ raised money for Surrey Food Bank

The City of Surrey recorded record-breaking attendance at the 13th annual Surrey Tree Lighting Festival & Holiday Market on Nov. 25 and 26.

“It was a real pleasure to see so many people come out to enjoy this event that kicks off the winter festive season,” Surrey mayor Brenda Locke stated in a news release.

The city said more than 30,000 people attended the two-day festival at Civic Plaza, which had live entertainment, photos with Santa, a kids’ zone, a holiday market and food trucks.

The festival expanded to two days this year after receiving “strong interest, support, and feedback from the community,” a news release says.

Locke and members of the city council flipped the switch Nov. 25 to illuminate the 60-foot Christmas tree, which will be illuminated until Jan. 2.

Concord Pacific hosted ‘Giving Trees’ again this year, where every pledge from attendees was matched with a $1 donation to Surrey Food Bank.

On the website surreytreelighting.ca, attendees can take a survey to provide feedback on the festival for a chance to win a $250 gift card to Guildford Town Centre.
