Sources Community Resources Society (SOURCES) executive director Howard Schein has retired after 30 years of service.
A media release issued on Friday noted the appointment of Julie Snowden, formerly manager of Child Development Services to the position.
Schein started with SOURCES' predecessor Peace Arch Community Services (PACS) as a family counsellor at the Children's Treatment Centre located in Ocean Park. He later took on a shared initiative with Alexandra Neighbourhood House to deliver a program to families challenged by stress and conflict.
As first Director of Child and Family Services, he worked with countless families, parents, and children, deeply committed to improving relationships with respect and thoughtful guidance.
Kelly Ridding, COO of SOURCES said she worked alongside Schein throughout his career with PACS and SOURCES.
"I have appreciated his steadfast dedication to serving the community, families, and the organization," she said.
" I will miss the laughs and shared stories of the past but wish Howard all the best during his well-deserved retirement,” she added.
“Howard’s dedication and leadership have been nothing short of inspirational," commented David MacIntyre, President & CEO of SOURCES.
"His unwavering commitment to community support and Truth & Reconciliation have profoundly impacted many lives,” he noted.
Established in 1978, Sources Community Resources Society (SOURCES) is an internationally accredited not for-profit social services agency. Our programs serve individuals across various age groups experiencing poverty, mental health challenges, disability, conflict, isolation and addiction.
Snowden, holder of a Master of Education in Special Education from Vancouver Island University, has been with SOURCES since 2018.
She brings more than 14 years of experience in nonprofit management and community development, and more than 10 years in child development to her new role.
“Julie’s passion for social change, her strategic approach to community engagement, and dedication to Truth and Reconciliation make her an outstanding choice to lead the organization into the next chapter,” says MacIntyre.
He noted that Snowden will be responsible for the leadership and administration of various programs, including services for children and youth with support needs, child development and intervention services, youth services, family services, anti-violence programs, and mental health services in Prince George, Vancouver Island, and the Lower Mainland.
“I am excited to work toward creating meaningful, lasting change for the families and communities SOURCES supports,” she said.
