Surrey Now-Leader Community Leader Awards: Meet Hanna Grover

Hanna's efforts earned her top honour for Youth Volunteer

Youth Volunteer, top honour

Hanna Grover is a 16-year-old Grade 11 student committed to giving back to her community.

Her contributions have created positive, lasting impacts that continue inspiring her peers and the broader community. She founded the non-profit Poet2Poet, which provides a safe space for youth poets to share their creative writing pieces and support one another.

She has volunteered with various organizations, including the City of Surrey summer camps and the B.C. Children's Hospital youth committee.

"I’ve always believed in the power of small actions creating big changes, whether that's local or national work," Hanna said. "My passion for community work stems from a desire to empower youth to see themselves as agents of change. I know firsthand how empowering it is to be given the chance to exemplify your voice, and I want to pay that forward while being able to create a positive impact on my topics I am extremely passionate about," she said.

Hanna has pushed community service forward within the school by spearheading multiple initiatives supporting organizations such as Surrey Urban Mission, Books For Me, World Wildlife Fund, Options, and Alzheimer's Society of B.C.

Hanna was grateful to be acknowledged for her volunteer work.

"It shows that young people can truly drive change, not just in their communities but on a larger scale. It’s a reminder that youth voices matter and can be a powerful force for good. I hope that I can encourage other young people to realize their potential, take bold steps, and know that their contributions are just as valuable. This also serves as an opportunity for me to raise awareness about my mission and expand the work I’m passionate about, allowing me to deepen my impact and continue driving change!"
