Surrey Now-Leader Community Leader Awards: Meet Mike Sandford

Sandford's efforts earned him top honour in the Volunteer category

Volunteer, top honour

When he's not putting out fires in his day job as a Surrey firefighter, Mike Sandford spends countless hours volunteering and giving back to the community.

He volunteers with organizations like Young Guns Garage, teaching Surrey high school students to build cars for drag racing competitions. Sandford is also a Red Seal mechanic and maintains vehicles for the Surrey Fire Historical Society.

"What motivates me to keep giving to the community is the impact it can have on improving lives and the ability to give others opportunities that they may not ever get," he said.

Sadnford has a profound impact on those around him, and his enthusiasm and dedication shine through no matter what he is doing.

"I appreciate that others see what I do, but giving back to the community often provides its own rewards, like personal growth, connections, and the satisfaction of making a difference," he said.
