Surrey's first responders are inviting the community to come out on Saturday to help the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program and the Surrey Food Bank collect donations for families in need this holiday season.
Surrey RCMP officers and volunteers and Surrey Fire Services members will be outside Price Smart Foods in two locations on Dec. 7.
They'll be asking the public to help "Pack the Police Car" with non-perishable food items between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Price Smart at 18710 Fraser Highway (Hillcrest Village Shopping Centre) and at 10312 King George Blvd.
The event at Hillcrest Village Shopping Centre called Cloverdale Community Cares, a one-day donation blitz to collect as many donations as possible for the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program, which assisted more than 230 families and individuals last year.
Santa Claus will be handing out candy canes. Enjoy hot chocolate and more.
"We hope that the citizens of Surrey give generously and help us pack our police cars full of healthy meals to help the many families in need at this time of year," said Surrey RCMP Insp. Garry Begg. "Our goal is to ensure that no one in need goes hungry this holiday season."
Donations of food, new toys and cash are being accepted for the Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program to Dec. 10. Donations can be made at Pacific Community Church at 5337 180 Street or online at www.pacificcommunity.ca/ministries/cloverdale-hamper-program.
