A crowd of about 200 people attended a rally in Surrey Sunday to discuss community safety and crime prevention at Newton Seniors Centre.

Residents, community advocates and two police officers spoke about policing and justice system concerns, as well as concepts and initiatives aimed at making neighbourhoods safer.

The event was organized by local activist Naida Robinson following the murder of 17-year-old Serena Vermeersch.
