Surrey teen Sierra Pilcher has been named Miss Teen Surrey-World 2013, qualifying her for a national competition in Toronto.
Pilcher, 17, is among several top provincial finalists who will be heading to the Miss Teen Canada Worlds this summer.
The honour roll student at Fleetwood Park Secondary recently started a youth advocacy and peer mediation program at her school and has also devoted time to student council and performance choir.
Outside school, Pilcher has worked as a youth camp leader, mentor and respite care provider and has logged thousands of hours as a volunteer. A former competitive synchronized swimmer, she’s also a musician and has composed and performed her own inspirational music on many occasions. As host of a local cable show, she reaches out to other youth to encourage them to get involved and make a difference.
Miss Teen Canada World contestants are chosen based on public speaking skills, grace and poise, interview skills, talents and abilities and their impact on their community.
About 60 finalists from across the country will compete for the national title in July. The winner will make numerous public appearances and inspire others to give to charitable organizations.
While Pilcher’s cause of choice is Free the Children, she will be performing at a fundraiser this Friday (March 1) at Wired Monk Coffee Bistro (15930 Fraser Hwy.) benefiting the Surrey Food Band. The event takes place from 6-9 p.m.
