Two Cloverdale residents are being recognized for their contribution to the discipline of motorsports.
On Saturday, Doug and Dan MacLanders will be inducted into the Greater Vancouver Motorsports Pioneers Society for their decades of work with hot rods and custom cars.
The identical twins – who share a singular passion for hot rods and fast cars, and the ability to turn their dreams into reality – are being inducted along with 13 other pioneers and supporters Sept. 28, at Shannon Hall on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds at 176 Street and 60 Avenue. The induction ceremony runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Doors open at noon.
Motorsport enthusiasts are welcome to attend, whether their thing is powerboats, race cars or motorcycles.
The society’s goal is to recognize and record the contribution of pioneers of motorsport in the region.
Inductees fall into one of many motorsport disciplines, from hot rod, custom car and drag racing to sports car and road racing, motorcycling, and
power boat racing.
The MacLanders brothers have been tinkering away since they were 17-year-old students at Princess Margaret High School, where they souped up their first projects. For Doug, it was a 1949
Anglia, that was soon replaced by a 1959 Corvette. Dan bought an old pickup, but didn’t stop there. After he left school and started work as a sheet metal technician, Dan got a 1966 Corvette roadster. Doug, meanwhile, got his welding ticket.
Over the years, the brothers have put their skills to work on a succession of cars.
Nominees are considered for induction in the society after logging at least 40 years to their discipline.
