Two Surrey students receive combined $180K in scholarships

SURREY — Two Surrey students are among just 50 teens selected nationwide to receive the prestigious 2017 Schulich Leader Scholarship.

Ali Janjiana, who is graduating from Frank Hurt Secondary this year, was awarded a $100,000 scholarship to study engineering at UBC, while, Princess Margaret Secondary student Jasmine Rai received $80,000 toward her studies at Simon Fraser University.

The pair were chosen from a pool of more than 1,300 nominees for their outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements.

The scholarships are awarded to study science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) at participating universities in Canada and Isreal. The program awards 100 scholarships annually, valued at more than $7 million.
