Surrey firefighters are holding a ceremony this Sunday to honour their American colleagues on the 10-year anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

A special event is planned at the west end of Holland Park in North Surrey and is open to all uniformed personnel from emergency services and invited guests to participate, and open to members of the public to attend.

“We will always remember the response of firefighters on Sept.11, 2001, and never forget the sacrifices they made,” said Surrey Fire Fighters’ Association president Chris Keon.

“Our ceremony is dedicated to those who have fallen and to those who carry on.”

The ceremony will start at 9 a.m.

Holland Park is located near Old Yale Road and Whalley Ring Road.

All other Surrey fire stations will conduct a minute of silence at 9:11 a.m. to allow for those on duty who cannot make it to the ceremony at Holland Park to participate in the day of remembrance.

For more information, call Keon at 604-309-1755.

Several Delta Police officers who were competing at last week’s World Police and Fire Games in New York will remain there to take part in special ceremonies to mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
