'West Side Story' with Surrey Youth Orchestras, for Mother's Day

SURREY — In an afternoon of music, Surrey Symphony Society will celebrate Mother's Day weekend with West Side Story and more than 100 musicians in three Surrey Youth Orchestras.

The concert is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10 at Bell Performing Arts Centre, 6250 144th St., Surrey.

Under the direction of Carla Birston, the Surrey Strings will perform Harold Birston's arrangement of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story featuring Vancouver-born professional percussionist Phillip Crewe.

Also featured will be Surrey Youth Orchestra concerto competition winners Sunny Shih, violinist, and Yu An Cheng, cellist.
