WHITE ROCK - Collection of waste for commercial and multi-family units will soon change in White Rock as the city moves to a privatized system.
The service change will affect recycling, garbage and organic waste pickup for businesses and apartment and townhouse complexes. According to a release by the city, the decision was made after reviewing options that came out of the White Rock Solid Waste Review Report in 2014.
"We appreciate that this will be a significant change for our businesses and multi-family residents," said Tracey Arthur, acting chief administrative officer. "The city is working on a transition plan to help those affected along with engaging with community partners and will identify a date when the changes will come into effect."
The city will also be exploring the possibility of contracting out single-family home collections and comparing current costs with the private sector.
