Surrey — Mounties are investigating after a woman was shot in the leg early Sunday morning.

Police say the 28-year-old woman was found in a trailer in the 8200 block of King George Blvd. with a gunshot wound to her lower leg.

Police said the woman had been in the parking lot of a convenience store near 80th Ave., and King George Blvd. when a dark-coloured SUV pulled into the lot about 3:30 a.m.

The woman and occupants of the SUV exchanged words. The woman then walked back to the trailer park and the vehicle followed her. The verbal exchange continued at the trailer park, and at one point one of the occupants of the dark coloured SUV fired a single gunshot, which struck the woman in the lower leg.

The SUV then fled the scene, and was last seen heading out onto King George Blvd.

Police said the victim is stable but "groggy" from sedation and was unable to provide any further information about what had happened.

Surrey RCMP are presently seeking the public’s assistance, and asking anyone who saw the incident, either at the convenience store or the trailer park, to call the Surrey R.C.M.P. at 604-599-0502 or to call Crime Stoppers.
