Nineteen sixty-nine is remembered for a lot of things.
It was the year Neil Armstrong took giant leap for mankind, when Max Yasgur invited half-a-million hippies to his dairy farm in Bethel, New York, and a sad period for some young women when Linda Eastman got married.
Locally on May 16, 1969, a new organization was incorporated as a non-profit society under the name of the Delta Community Arts.
With that in mind, the Delta Arts Council is gearing up for a three-day celebration of it's 45th anniversary.
The following events take place at the Firehall Centre for the Arts, 11489 84 Ave.:
• On May 30, there will be an special throwback North Delta Open Mic Tribute, starting at 7:30 p.m. Expect hit songs from 1969 or thereabouts. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $4.
• On May 31, there will be a 45th anniversary celebration, with a 3-5 p.m. drama/dance, a 5-7 p.m. meet-and-greet, and 7-9p.m. Party Time.
• On June 1 at 2:30 p.m., North Delta Open Mic regular performer Marilyn Kruger (photo above) will perform Tempus Fugit ("time flees" or "time flies" in Latin), a one-woman show featuring her distinctive, vibrato voice and twangy country music roots. Tickets are $10. Doors open at 2 p.m.
